Herb Garden

Sarah Simmsthings
Ever since I moved to Seattle last August I have been wanting/waiting to plant an herb garden for two main reasons:

#1 -  I spend far too much moola on herbs at the grocery store

#2 - It is just plain awesome to grow your own herbs

I got back into town after 6 weeks in California and the sun was shining [surprise, surprise] so I figured that there was no time like the present..right?  Off to the nursery I went.

 Final Selections:
Italian Basil, Tuscan Blue Rosemary, Curry, French Tarragon, Greek Oregano, Sweet Thai Basil, Fennel, Common Sage, Pineapple Sage, Triple Curled Parsley, Italian Parsley, Lemon Thyme, Spanish Lavender, Cilantro, Purple Basil, and Spearmint.

My mom recently gave me an old World War II bread pan and my [brilliant] sister suggested I use it as a vessel for the herb garden ...so perfect.

I decided to try a simple, well-known combination...

Soil + Water + Sunshine

[ok...maybe a little organic fertilizer too]

so far, so good.

I sort of have a lot going on in my bread pan garden...quite possibly a tad too much.

Maybe they will all thrive or maybe it will be more of a survival of the fittest sort of thing

...only time will tell.

I'll keep you posted.

Oh and if any of you have pics of your garden or tips that you swear by please share them on the LFE Facebook page or via Twitter [@LaFemmeEpicure]
